During "Becoming History with Stephen Seals, Nation Builder James Lafayette", learn how Colonial Williamsburg’s Nation Builders bring the voices of the past to life with a behind the scenes look into the art and craft of interpretation and how they move from research to scripts, to performance, to impact. The story of America is full of hope and struggle. Step into the past with James Lafayette, enslaved revolutionary spy. Learn more about his contribution to the founding of our nation as you engage with him and experience his world. Experience Stephen Seals' interpretation of James Lafayette with discussion and Q & A moderated by Robert Currie, Associate Vice President, Performing Arts & Signature Events for The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Following the masterclass inside, enjoy a quintessential piece of the Colonial Williamsburg experience through the vibrations of 18th-century military music with a series of special performances outside Norton Hall. The march of the Fifes and Drums is an indispensable part of the Colonial Williamsburg visit. The shrill fife and the resounding drum broadcast a wave of sound throughout the city announcing the red-and-blue-uniformed regiment moving through the streets of Williamsburg. What started 65 years ago as four high school students playing “Yankee Doodle” at a Fourth of July celebration has since blossomed into two full Corps of local students who perform more than any other youth Fife and Drum Corps in the country. These students keep alive an even longer tradition of military music that dates back centuries.
